The history of Kruklanki dates back to the 16th century, when Jan Bębelnik settled Polish and Lithuanian families here. It was a rich and prosperous village as in 1574 a church was built in the village which, despite numerous fires, has preserved much of its 16th century architectural value. It has been the mainstay of Polish culture for centuries - in 1912 the local priest was required to be able to speak Polish. The school was built roughly the same time as the church. Kruklanki was largely destroyed during World War I.

The system of fortifications which formed a part of the Giżycko Region fortifications, of reinforced concrete bunkers and trenches, was built in the Kruklanki area during World War II.

The turn of the 20th century in East Prussia was a period of intensive development of roads, rails and waterways. Kruklanki was on the route linking railway lines from Węgorzewo to Giżycko (construction completed at the turn of 1905 and 1906) and from Kruklanki to Olecko (construction completed in 1908).This huge railway investment resulted in the construction of the entire infrastructure including embankments, roads, viaducts, bridges, railway stations and residential buildings, railway stations and signalling centres.
